If I am honest overall, I think most people have a fairly good grasp of their own sense of style. We clothe ourselves everyday, therefore we are already demonstrating a pretty good sense of the use of fashion.
On the flip side though sometimes it can be challenging, frustrating or annoying for lots of different reasons. You might have gone up or down a size, changed your hair colour, landed a new job, or you find the changing array of seasonal fashion a tad mind-boggling.
The key message here is that there is no right or wrong in this, it’s just about letting your feelings, lifestyle and interests to guide you to your perfect wardrobe.
There is no magic formula or quick hack for finding your own style (sorry folks), however there are a few things you can think about to help guide you. Plus, if you need an extra set of eyes, and would like a more in-depth analysis of what colour, cuts and styles suit you best, email me, as I would be only too happy to help.
So, here is my list to help you get going:
- What is your day-to-day like? Looking at your lifestyle is about the best start to you can get. Look at your week to week and review where you spend most of your time. Is it at the office, home, business meetings, the city, outdoors? How you spend the majority of your time is going to influence the largest section of your wardrobe.
- What makes you feel the most confident and comfortable. This is really essential, as I believe that whatever you put on, for whatever occasion, it has to make you feel good about yourself. Do you feel good in comfy loose-fitting clothes, or prefer fitted? Is it heels or flats, jeans or trouser, only you will know.
- Do you follow a scene? Such as motorbikes, running, sailing, music aka hip-hop or drum and bass are you full-time mum, love fine dining and going out to the theatre. Whats your ‘thing’ ? Everyone has a range of ‘things’ they enjoy and spend time on, perhaps observing this will give you some strong pointers too.
- What are you drawn too? What do you love when you see other people or when you are in shops and you think wow that looks good, could that be something for you to try?
Lastly, you are allowed to change your style, you don’t have to have the same style day and night, week to week, season to season. You are allowed to change your style as often as you want, so don’t ever feel you need to have one look, hell I don’t! That’s the beauty of fashion, you can keep mixing it up as often as you like, as long as it makes you feel good about yourself along the way.
Happy hunting for your perfect style.
